Start a tambayan

This is the real app.

Actual screens, straight from tambay. Tap one to take a closer look.

From zero to tambay in a minute.

  1. Make your tambayan

Name it, pick a look, and add rooms: text for chat, huts for voice.

  2. Send the invite link

Share a link or code. Friends join in a tap, no setup on their side.

  3. Hang out

Chat, hop into a hut, turn on your camera or share your screen.

Everything a barkada needs.

  • Rooms that keep up

Text rooms with pictures, edits, mentions and unread badges.

  • Voice huts

Hop in, talk, and keep typing in any room at the same time.

  • Buddy chat

Add friends and chat from a small window you can move anywhere.

  • Yours to run

Invite links, admins and co-admins, and moderation built in.

Take your tambayan with you.

Download Tambay for your desktop or phone. It is the same account and the same tambayans, in its own window.

Windows

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit

A light desktop app with its own window and taskbar icon. Voice, video and screen sharing work the same as on the website.

Download for Windows

Version 0.1.0 · .exe installer 1.1 MB

How to install (5 steps)
  1. Press Download for Windows. If your browser says the file is not commonly downloaded, open its downloads list (Ctrl+J), choose the three dots next to the file, then Keep, then Keep anyway.
  2. Open your Downloads folder and double-click the Tambay setup file.
  3. If a blue window says "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway. It shows up because the app is not signed with a paid publisher certificate yet; it is safe when it came from this page.
  4. Let the installer finish. It installs just for you, so it does not need administrator rights.
  5. Open Tambay from the Start menu and log in. Allow the microphone and camera when Windows asks.

If something goes wrong

There is no Run anyway button
Click the words More info first: the Run anyway button only appears after that.
The browser deleted or blocked the download
Open the browser's downloads list (Ctrl+J), find the file and choose Keep. On Edge, choose the three dots, then Keep, then Show more, then Keep anyway.
My antivirus removed the file
Restore it from the antivirus's quarantine list, or allow it, then run it again. If you want to be sure it is the real file, compare its SHA-256 below.
It installed but the window is blank or white
Tambay needs Microsoft Edge WebView2, which Windows 11 has and Windows 10 usually gets from Windows Update. Run Windows Update, or install the free WebView2 Runtime from Microsoft, then open Tambay again.
It asks for an administrator password
You should not need one. Close it, and run the installer again while signed in to your own Windows account.
Check your downloadIn PowerShell, run: Get-FileHash .\Downloads\<the file name> and compare the result with the SHA-256 below. Its SHA-256 should be:Tambay-0.1.0-windows-x64-setup.exe: 7c9d7963cdbf162121c4bdf56863f6129c9c4997d752bb3aede33e04331cba38

Android

Android 7.0 or newer

The Tambay app for your phone or tablet, with notifications and the microphone for voice huts.

Download for Android

Version 0.1.0 · .apk file 3.2 MB

How to install (5 steps)
  1. Press Download for Android in your phone's browser. If it warns that this type of file can harm your device, choose OK or Download anyway.
  2. Open the file when the download finishes (tap the notification, or open the Files app, then Downloads, then the Tambay file).
  3. If Android says your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps, tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source for the browser you used, then press Back to return to the install screen.
  4. Tap Install. If Google Play Protect says it blocked the app or wants to scan it, tap More details, then Install anyway (or Scan app, then Install). It asks because Tambay is not in the Play Store yet.
  5. Open Tambay, log in, and allow the microphone when asked.

If something goes wrong

"App not installed"
Free up some storage and try again. If an older Tambay is already on the phone, uninstall it first and then install this one. Make sure the file finished downloading.
"There was a problem parsing the package"
The download was cut off. Delete the file and download it again on a steady connection; the size should match the one shown above.
I can't find the file I downloaded
Open the Files (or My Files) app, then Downloads. In Chrome you can also open the three-dot menu, then Downloads.
The install option is greyed out or there is no Allow from this source switch
Open Settings, search for Install unknown apps, choose your browser and turn it on. On some phones it is under Apps, then Special access.
Play Protect keeps blocking it
Tap More details, then Install anyway. You can also open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, Play Protect, then the settings gear, and pause Scan apps with Play Protect while you install, then turn it back on.
I can't share my screen
Phones and tablets don't let apps like this capture the screen. You can watch someone else's shared screen, but sharing needs a computer.
Check your downloadThe file size should match the size shown above. On a computer you can check its SHA-256 against the value below. Its SHA-256 should be:Tambay-0.1.0-android.apk: f97f48adb8b18455d0953ba197e2a2b2de5c0123de24d395a45331bf0d01462a

iPhone & iPad

iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or newer, in Safari

The App Store app is still on its way. Until then, put Tambay on your Home Screen: it opens full screen like an app.

How to install (5 steps)
  1. Open tambay.site in Safari (the blue compass). It has to be Safari, not the browser inside another app such as Messenger or Instagram.
  2. Log in to your account.
  3. Tap the Share button: the square with an arrow pointing up. It is at the bottom of the screen on an iPhone and at the top on an iPad.
  4. Scroll down the list and tap Add to Home Screen, then tap Add.
  5. Open Tambay from the new icon on your Home Screen (not from Safari). To get notifications, allow them when it asks, or turn them on in Settings, then Notifications, then Tambay.

If something goes wrong

I can't find Add to Home Screen
Scroll further down the Share list, or tap Edit Actions at the bottom and add it. If you opened the page inside another app, tap the ... or compass icon to open it in Safari first.
The icon opens Safari with all its buttons
Delete the icon and add it again from Safari's Share button. Opening from the Home Screen is what makes it look like an app.
I get no notifications
Notifications need iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or newer, and they only work for the Home Screen version. Allow them when Tambay asks, and check Settings, then Notifications, then Tambay.

Linux

A 64-bit desktop with WebKitGTK (most distributions)

A light desktop app. Get the AppImage to run anywhere, or the .deb for Debian and Ubuntu.

Coming soon

How to install (4 steps)
  1. Pick one file: the AppImage works on almost any distribution, and the .deb is for Debian, Ubuntu, Mint and similar.
  2. AppImage: right-click the file, open Properties, then Permissions, and turn on Allow executing file as a program (or run chmod +x on it in a terminal). Then double-click it.
  3. .deb: double-click it and press Install in your software centre, or in a terminal go to your Downloads folder and run: sudo apt install ./<the file name> (keep the ./ at the start).
  4. Open Tambay from your applications menu (or run the AppImage) and log in. Allow the microphone and camera when asked.

If something goes wrong

The AppImage says libfuse.so.2 is missing or does nothing when I open it
Install FUSE 2: sudo apt install libfuse2 (on Ubuntu 24.04 the package is libfuse2t64). On other distributions install fuse2 or fuse-libs.
It starts but the window is empty or it says WebKit is missing
Install WebKitGTK 4.1: on Debian or Ubuntu run sudo apt install libwebkit2gtk-4.1-0; on Fedora sudo dnf install webkit2gtk4.1; on Arch sudo pacman -S webkit2gtk-4.1.
Nothing happens when I double-click the AppImage
It is not marked as a program yet. Do the Allow executing step above, or run chmod +x on it.
Screen sharing shows nothing or asks twice
Sharing goes through your desktop's portal. Make sure xdg-desktop-portal and the portal for your desktop (GNOME, KDE, wlr) are installed, then log out and back in.

The downloads are not signed with a publisher certificate yet, so your system may show an “unknown publisher” warning. Only download from this page. Open “How to install” on a card for the steps and for what to do if something goes wrong. On a Mac, use tambay in your browser: there is no Mac app yet.

Open the downloads page to share the link with someone.
